This ongoing series of container-like forms reflects my continued exploration of pattern and color. The forms are classic and simple in contrast to the patterns which are constructed into them. Stitch by stitch and row by row the form slowly grows.
Color and pattern always have a source. For me the landscape is both the source and the inspiration. For years I have been creating forms which speak about my memories of sunrises, sunsets and other amazing color tricks I have seen sky perform. Some of those memories relate to my childhood, others to walking the beach at my brothers in North Carolina, living in upstate New York in a house on a hill which faced west and looked down a beautiful valley, etc. The sky for me is a continued source of inspiration as is the world around me.
In these forms the pattern is built into the shape as it grows. It is an integral part of each piece. Each completed form stands as a record of the particular event or thought which I was trying to convey and to the large amounts of time which went into its construction.
