Dianne Shullenberger
Biography
Dianne’s childhood years were spent in the mid-west. She was educated at Purdue University and majored in art and physical education. After living in the Chicago area for eleven years her family moved to Vermont. This was the pivotal change in her career - from teaching to doing art full time. Dianne grew up in a household where clothes, curtains, and quilts were made rather than purchased. Her mother was a fashion designer and seamstress so there were always fabrics available for her art projects. Her journey as an artist started with Sumi watercolor classes at the Evanston Art Center then gravitated to fiber after she took a trapunto quilting class. She continued to experiment with textiles, and quickly evolved to her current technique of layered fabric collage. Dianne’s love for the outdoors has always stimulated her artwork. She spends a portion of everyday pursuing some form of physical activity, regardless of the weather. The outdoor environment exposes treasures for gathering, or displays its personality for her to photograph or draw. The year is divided; creating fiber collage in the winter, colored pencil drawings and watercolors in the summer. Dianne has a wonderful studio and gallery on her property in Vermont and a tree house art studio on Lake Michigan.
