Biography
A master fiber artist, Jan creates sculptural art from unusual materials such as fruit peels, sturgeon skins and materials as mundane as leaves and petals. Each piece, a marriage of deep sensitivity and reverence with a heavy emphasis on innovation. Hopkins current sculptural vessels and installations contain empowering impactful narratives. Her ongoing work continues to grow in her practice as an innovator in natural fibers, influencing other artists nationally and internationally.
Artist Statement
Walking through a garden opens the senses and reveals a visual awareness of nature’s beauty and all that it embodies. When I create art with organic materials, I attempt to preserve, capture and contain that beauty.
